Grades 2-5 played one-on-one soccer cone knockdown. One student is on offense. The other is on defense. The defender must get right up on the offensive player trying to steal the soccer ball. Meanwhile, the offensive player is trying to make a soccer move to get around the defender and kick their ball toward the cone. If they knock the cone over they receive a point. This is a nice drill because it allows for students to practice both offensive moves and defensive positioning.
Grades K-1 played a similar but modified game of cone knockdown. Students stand about 10-12 yards away from each other with a cone in the middle. They take turns trying to knock the cone over. The goal here is for students to practice how to kick a ball.

Today the upper grades worked on shooting the ball on goal Some students were goalies. The younger grades (K-2) worked on dribbling the soccer ball.
Nice day to be outside! The kids are much more attentive when the weather stays cooler. The rain held off which helped! The upper grades will start some mini-games this week. Check the daily exercises page above. Ask your child to demonstrate some of them at home for you. Have a good night! Thought this article was very interesting. Give it a read!
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/answer-sheet/wp/2016/09/13/recess-four-times-a-day-why-some-schools-are-now-letting-kids-play-an-hour-a-day/ Feel free to comment on what you think about this article. We'd be interested to hear your opinions. We hope you all had a nice weekend! Hopefully many of our students were outside and active during these last few days of summer! Short hikes are a great way to spend time together as a family while being active. Use an online search engine to find many fun, local, kid friendly hiking trails right here in the Catskills.
Remember proper foot gear when hiking even the basic of trails. Always bring water and pack a bag with some food, a flashlight, first aid kit, and extra clothing. Today in PE class tudents continued our soccer unit. The break from the warm weather makes the unit much more enjoyable. Students continued working on passing and dribbling skills. Ask them who they partnered with today! Today was the first day classes were able to make it outside. We began our day with our Thursday exercises and went out to begin our soccer unit. All three classes (Bruce, Haller, Kiefer) are together. We worked on passing the ball back and forth using the side of our foot and not the toe.
The soccer unit will continue for the next couple weeks.. Thanks for your help with earrings and proper footwear. Most of the students were prepared to play today! Coach Bruce, Coach Haller, and Coach Kiefer would like to welcome back all of our students and their families! We hope you had a happy, safe summer full of family and fun.
One important temporary change you should be aware of is all classes will be meeting in the MP room (gym) until further notice. Over the summer the floor in the large gym became damaged and is unusable. The floor will be good as new by the time the cold comes in, but in the meantime accommodating three classes in such a small area will require some patience and adjusting. Please ensure students have sneakers each day. If they have an older pair, that might be a better choice, especially when the grass is cut. If girls would like to wear dresses to school, please make sure they wear shorts underneath. Lastly, earrings that have been in more than 8 weeks need to be removed prior to coming to class. If your child struggles taking them out, have them practice at home, just like they do with tying shoes. Earrings that cannot come out because they were just recently pierced (within 8 weeks), they need to be taped prior to class. This rule is important as it protects those wearing the earrings and those around them. Check back daily for updates on daily PE activities, articles, and community events! |
