The original plan was for students with Coach Haller to start basketball and for students in Coach Bruce's and Coach Kiefer's classes to start floor hockey. However, due to some scheduling changes and the MP room being used for other events, we will not begin these units until Thursday.
Today students played a new game called Castle Crashers. Ask them how it's played! Remember, signups for grades 4&5 floor hockey intramurals end on Tuesday! Please return that form as intramurals starts Wednesday. Students in grades 4-5 were given spring intramural signup sheets. We will be playing floor hockey. If your child would like to participate, please return the forms as soon as you can.
In preparation for tomorrow's Jump Rope for Heart (grades 3-5), students had their final day of jumprope. Many classes learned some tandem jumps with a partner. Ask them about some different ways to tandem jump. For those who haven't returned the collection envelope for Jump Rope for Heart, please do so tomorrow! Have a great February break! Students in all grades continued with jumprope. Reminder that Friday is the annual Jump Rope for Heart for students who signed up in grades 3-5. The collection envelopes were due today. If your child did not return their envelope today, please do so tomorrow. Thanks!
After February break students who have Coach Bruce and Coach Kiefer will begin a floor hockey unit. Students in Mr. Haller's class will begin basketball. For students in grades 4 & 5, be on the lookout this week for a floor hockey intramural sign up sheet. This unit is led by Coach Bruce and Coach Haller and will take place after school 5 different days from 2:45 to 3:45. The Lost and Found here at Ellis is very full! Check it out when passing through! Students began a week long jumprope unit. This is a lead in for grades 3-5 that culminates with the Jump Rope for Heart program. Students in the younger grades focus, for the most part, on the regular basic jump. Students in the older grades will perform different tricks. We complete this unit each year. Each year students review old tricks and learn new ones.
Homespun Family dance during PE class will resume on Friday. The weather has bumped this activity from Tuesday to Thursday to Friday. Friday night all GCS elementary families are invited to come learn the dances. Hope to see you all there! Ask your child about the dances they learned today in PE class!
