Students participated in three different stations today outside on the soccer field.
Station 1: Hitting a wiffle ball off a tee Station 2: Catch and throw using baseball/softball glove. Students used a variety of balls of different sizes. All balls are soft. Actual softballs and hardballs are not used. Station 3: Flying discs (Frisbee) Some classes still need to complete their second attempt at the timed run. We anticipate completing these runs this week with the cooler temperatures rolling in. Thanks.

We were outside today due to the concert in the big gym and the art show in the MP room. A few early classes were able to run their laps for a time because in the morning it was still cool enough to do so. However, the incoming heat quickly put an end to running laps. Instead, students were allowed to have free play on the soccer field.
Next week, if the weather cooperates, classes who haven't yet run the timed spring laps will continue to do so. Have a safe 4 day weekend! On Monday, May 23, students in grades k-1 ran their timed 1/3 mile run. Students in grades 2-3 ran their timed 2/3 mile run. Students in grades 4-5 ran their timed mile run. Our hope is that student times improve from the same run they completed in the fall. Ask your child how they did!
Good evening.
Thank you to everyone that has registered for the GSC Summer Rec Soccer program already! We are hard at work creating rosters, setting up insurance and ordering socks / shirts for the kids. More information regarding your team assignments will be communicated in mid-June! For those have not yet registered, we have extended the open period through Friday 5/20. Please login and register soon as this will be the final date! Thank you and have a great evening! Jared This week students have participated in relay races around a 1/3 mile lap. Soon students will be running their spring run. Students in k-1 will run 1/3 mile. Students in grades 2-3 will run 2/3 mile. Students in grades 4-5 will run 1 mile. This is the same run from the fall. Refer to your child's report card to see how they did in the spring.
The threat of rain kept us inside all day today. W ended our week playing the ever popular Sink the Ship.
The plan for Monday is to continue going outside for our track & field unit. We will begin talking about how to pace yourself when running long distances. Reminder, last day for community soccer signups is Monday, May 16. You can sign up your child from 6:00 to 8:00 in the small community room of the public library. Have a great weekend! Relay races continued today. There were two differences between yesterday and today. First, distance were longer for each leg of the race. Second, two hurdles were placed in between the first and second leg. Students were given three ways to go over the hurdle with all three ways varying in degree of difficulty. We will continue with this tomorrow. Thanks!

Students were introduced to a relay race today using a baton. Students were shown how to face forward and reach back with palm up so the baton handoff is executed smoothly. We will continue this for Tuesday after beginning class with a brief video of a relay race.
