The large gym is unavailable the next two days due to a grade 1 and grade 2 performance. The field was very wet this morning as well, so 5th grade, 4th grade, and some 3rd grade students were brought outside to the playground blacktop to play. We try not to use the MP room with 3 classes due to the small space. These students played Gaga, 4 Square, wall ball, and used hula hoops and playground balls.
At 10:30, when recess started and we needed to move, we tested the field and it wasn't too bad. Starting at this time (with first grade), students played with flying discs on the field. This will continue for the rest of the day if this stubborn weather pattern doesn't spoil that plan. Hopefully, we can continue with track on Friday. Thanks!

The weather continues to put our track unit on hold. It's just too wet outside. Although the weather is supposed to clear for Thursday, it may still be too wet to go out.
Today we set up the playground games of Gaga, tetherball, 4-square, jumprope, hula hoops and wall ball. These were the same games we setup the week before spring break. Thanks! Students began their track & field unit on Monday. We began with baton relay race sprints out on the soccer field. The track & field unit will continue for the next couple of weeks, weather dependent. We will slowly build up to long distance running and eventually hurdles.
The weather today did not cooperate. We had to move indoors. We played Four Corner Free For All. Hopefully we can get outside Wednesday to continue track. Thanks! Today students continued with playground games. The games we play in this unit were listed yesterday in the blog. Gaga conintued to be the most popular game of choice.
With the weather supposed to be in the 60s tomorrow, we plan on going outside to the field. Please be sure your child is dressed for the outside weather. Have a great spring break! We set up 6 different playground stations for the students. They include:
wall ball tetherball 4-Square jumprope hula hoop gaga Not familiar with gaga? Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO73MVAkhzw If the ball hits your leg, you are out. Students hit/slap the ball with their hands. They cannot catch, scoop, or throw the ball. This is a VERY popular game! Originally we were to start a week of playground games. We were going to set up wall ball, tether ball, 4-square, and Gaga inside the large gym. However, with this beautiful weather today and tomorrow, we adapted and took all classes on a hike around the school campus. The distance is just short of 1 mile.
Ask them if they were fortunate enough to see the beaver in the pond! Thanks! This week is raquet sports week! Students in grades 3-5 are playing badminton. Students can choose from the traditional raquests or paddles. Many of them are realizing that hitting the birdie is a lot harder than it seems!
Students in grades K-2 are using the paddles, made of styrofoam, and hitting balloons back and forth instead of birdies. We are giving some second grade students time with birdies as well. With all the rain it looks like we will be staying inside longer this year than usual. Please remember though, when the weather gets a little warmer and it dries up, we will be going outside. Please make sure you child is prepared for the elements. Too many students are forgetting sneakers each day. This seems especially true in grades 2-3. Please make sure you child comes equipped with sneakers each day for PE. Thanks! |
