Students in Bruce/Kiefer continue with lacrosse through Friday.
Students in Haller/Conrow continue with football through Friday as well. Students have resumed running a lap to start class this week. It's shorter than our usual lap. We will continue to work toward increasing the distance to 1/3 of a mile per lap. In a few weeks students will run a timed distance so we can compare it to their time from the fall. Kindergarten and first grade = 1/3 mile Second and third grade = 2/3 mile Fourth and fifth grade - 1 mile Have a good Spring Break! Students continue to go outside for PE. This is the plan for the rest of the year unless it's raining. Please have your child keep a sweatshirt in school for cooler days.
Students in Bruce/Kiefer continued their lacrosse unit today. Grades K-2 are working mostly with scoops instead of lacrosse sticks, although some work with an actual lacrosse stick is happening as well. Grades 3-5 work solely with lacrosse sticks. Students in Haller/Conrow continued the football unit. Today students spent about 8 minutes in each of 3 centers. The centers included Horseshoe Football, where students throw footballs into low basketball hoops. If they make a basket they get 3 points, if they hit the hoop they get 1 point. Center 2 was learning to kick a football of a kicking tee. Center 3 was basic throw and catch. Mrs. Kiefer is due back May 2! We look forward to seeing her again! The weather looks to be cooperating. As of tomorrow, Thursday, April 14, students will be going outside. Please ensure they have sneakers and sweatshirts.
Students in Bruce/Kiefer classes will begin lacrosse. Students in Haller/Conrow will begin a unit on football. Thanks! http://www.slate.com/blogs/schooled/2016/04/12/most_states_are_shortchanging_kids_on_physical_education_study_finds.html
Those students who earned prizes based on their donations made for Jump Rope for Heart are eagerly awaiting their arrival. Some of the prizes came in, but not all. As a result, 5th grade students were given their prizes. Those students in third and fourth grade will have to wait for their prizes as we await their arrival. Hopefully these items will be shipped before Spring Break. Thanks for your patience.
Have a good weekend! We continue to play indoor games due to the weather. Yesterday students were given free choice. Choices included relay races, jump rope, hula hoop, scooters, scoops, tug of war, and shooting baskets. Today most students will play a game we introduced last week, Four Corners Free For All. However, a few classes will not have access to the large gym due to the 1-2 rehearsal for their performance of Bugz. Those students will meet in the MP room to play scooter pin knockdown.
The weather outside has changed our plans. We were hoping to go outside this week but Mother Nature put a stop to that. Our plan for the rest of the week is to introduce new indoor games to the students. Today the students played a new game called Save the Statues. Ask them about it!
