We wrapped up bowling on Wednesday. The students played Pin Knockdown today and will have free choice on Friday. Free choices will include shooting baskets, scooters, jump ropes, hula hoops, and maybe a few other choices as well.
On behalf of the PE department here at Greenville, have a safe, happy holiday season! We will see you all in 2017!

Disco bowling continued on Monday. This will run through Wednesday. For Thursday and Friday we will break from bowling and play some fun games. We continue to stress stepping with the opposite foot when bowling (or throwing). This is a common problem in all grades. Thanks! The big gym was open for PE class once again today! All classes were able to continue with disco bowling. The lights are dimmed, the disco ball and lights glow, and holiday music plays in the background. The kids really love it!
Today we discussed walking towards the pins (approach) and then letting the bowl go. This way the ball gets some momentum. The younger children worked on making sure when the ball is released that the opposite foot is forward. For the kindergarten students, this was their first experience with the disco ball and lights. Ask them about it! Stay warm this weekend! Due to the winter concert, all three classes were in the small gym (MP room) on Wednesday and Thursday. This limits what we can do as the MP room isn't meant for 50-60 students. Yesterday the students played a game called Flip the Bucket. They try to toss a ball into a set of buckets. When the ball goes in a bucket, they flip it over. First team to flip all 6 buckets wins.
Today students are having scooter relays. We will be back in the large gym to continue bowling on Friday. Thanks. This week we begin another student favorite, disco bowling. We set up 12 lanes across the gym. The lanes are separated by mats. Students bowl with rubber replica bowling balls. One students bowls while their two partners stay by the pins to remove or reset pins that are knocked down. The lights are dimmed and we have a little light show with a disco ball going throughout. This is all set to music in the background! Terms we use include;
Strike Spare Open frame We try to make sure kids step with the opposite foot with which they bowl! Just like when they throw! Ask them about it! This week's gymnastics circuit is listed below. As stated yesterday, some circuits are the same while others have changed. This is a very popular unit. The children seem to be enjoying themselves.
Balance beam (change from last week is the children can perform a front scale, dip step, balance step, high step, or opposite toe touch. The balance beam is only 1 foot off the ground and is surrounded by mats.) Rock Wall (same as last week) The Beast (same as last week) Pebble Paths (Same as last week) Floor exercises (Same as last week Ex: Log roll, egg roll, bear walk, seal walk, lame puppy) Ladders and planks (adjusted slightly) Blue Hill (Higher this week!) Agility poles (New this week) The Track (Or as some of the children call it, the hamster wheel; new this week) Cargo Beast on stage (Same as last week) Barrel Mat (New this week) We play music as the kids work through the circuits. Kidz Bop 32 and 33 mainly. It's a lot of fun! Ask them about it! We will finish out our cirucit gymnastics unit this week. On Monday we will start our bowling unit. Our circuit gymnastics unit has changed a bit. Ask your child what's different this week as opposed to last week. Do they like the changes?
We will continue circuit gymnastics on Tuesday. Some of the circuits will have changed.
Today we took a break from gymnastics and played a game called Sinkerball. Click the link to see how it's played. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lFcp4JVD-8&t=27s |
