On behalf of the PE department, I'd like to welcome all our families and students back to Scott M. Ellis! We hope you had a relaxing summer. We are looking forward to another successful and fun year in PE!
Most classes attended PE today minus three fifth grades. They will begin tomorrow. Today students were introduced to their exercise spots. Then we discussed rules and expectations. The major focus of these conversations revolved around safety, kindness, and following directions. A few reminders regarding PE: 1) Grades K-3 have PE daily. Grades 4 & 5 four days a week. 2) Sneakers need to be worn everyday for PE class. Please send your child to school with sneakers. 3) Jewelry needs to removed in order to participate in PE. Earrings are a major safety concern. Please teach your child how to remove their earrings. Newly pierced ears will be taped until they are allowed to be removed. 4) Skirts and dresses can be worn to PE only if the child wears shorts or leggings underneath. This is a privacy issue as we exercise daily. Check back daily for updates about our day in PE! Thanks!

Thank you students and parents for a great year at Scott M. Ellis!.Good luck to our new 6th graders!
On behalf of Coach Bruce, Coach Kiefer, and myself, we wish you all a safe happy summer! Stay active and we will see you in the fall! Field Day for grades 3-5 was held today! The weather was great and the children had a great time. (And I may have gotten carried away with the hose!)
Events today included: Sponge Relay Run for the Roses Chute Relay Football Toss Obstacle Course Dizzy Izzy Sack Race Ask your child how each event was played! The K-2 Field Day went smoothly today! We had great weather! So many parents and teachers helped out to make it a great day! Thank you to all who made it successful.
Today's field day events were: Tug of war Egg Relay Pony Express Obstacle Course Sponge Relay Stacking Cups Relay Parachute Field Day ended with all K-2 classes gathered together to enjoy popsicles. Ask your child about their Field Day experience! Grades 3-5 will have their Field Day on Thursday from 9:15 to 11:15. Please dress accordingly. Field Day 2017 was rained out.
For grades K-2 Field Day is rescheduled for Tuesday morning. For grades 3-5 Field Day is rescheduled for Thursday morning. Since Field Day was cancelled today, the students played Pin Knockdown in PE class. Thanks! Interesting article about the use of a family media plan.
https://www.healthychildren.org/English/media/Pages/default.aspx Students were allowed to choose from a bunch of different equipment. Equipment included playground balls, frisbees, sack races, parachutes (large and small), slingshots, Skip-Its, and various other items. These choices are good for this time of year as they generally are played with little running, which is good with the high temperatures. We will continue with these choices for a few days. Ask your child which equipment they used today!
Field Day is Friday! Please make sure your child comes to school with water to drink, sunblock on, and perhaps a change of clothes! Students continued playing the Barbeque Games listed in the previous blog post. We stayed inside due to the field being wet. We hope to continue playing these games outside tomorrow on the soccer field.
Thanks! Some self-induced computer errors led to few blog postings the last week. Sorry for that.
This crazy wet weather pattern has led to a lot of indoor activities. It also has led to us potentially not being able to run our Spring Run for time. If you recall, we ran in the fall and then also do the spring to compare times. It was nice a few days last week, but the route is too wet to run. We need a week of dry weather, but time is running out. If we end up not being able to run the Spring run for time, you will see a time of 0.00 on the final report card. We began our Barbeque Games (also called Backyard Game) on Monday, usally an outdoor activity, inside our big gym. It's a little tight, but we were able to setup the following games. Cornhole Washer toss Horseshoes Ladderball Can Jam Polish Horseshoes Bucket toss Bocci Ball Ask your child which games they prefer best! Thanks Another crazy day in PE! Immigration Day changed the schedules of some classes and kept others from coming to PE at all today. Then, as usual for this spring, rain kept us indoors.
Grades 3-5 continued with the 10-Man mat race. This is the cooperative game where students must work together to move two gym mats the length of the gym without anybody touching the floor. It requires teamwork, respecting opinions and ideas, and cooperation. Some groups were very successful. Others were not. Discuss with your child why they were or weren't able to complete the task. Grades K-2 started with Army tag and then did some activities with the parachute. We hope the weather clears long enough for us to do our spring run. Have a great holiday weekend! |
