Students were given a pink information sheet and signup form for Jump Rope for Heart yesterday. This is for students in grades 3-5 only. Please return the white signup sheet as soon as possible so students can then receive their collection envelope. The deadline for this signup sheet is January 13.
Additionally, the white signup sheet contains a coupon in the bottom right hand corner that students can return after receiving their first $5 in pledges. This entitles them to a free lanyard! Students do not have to bring in the $5 pledge to receive the lanyard, they simply need to return the coupon. All money will be turned in at a later date. All donations can also be made online at www.heart.org/jump, however, make sure to select Scott M. Ellis and NOT Greenville School. Questions? Ask away! Thanks! Be on the lookout! Students in grades 3-5 were given forms to sign up for Jump Rope for Heart! This is one of the most exciting and fun days of the year. Students fund raise money for the American Heart Association by finding people to sponsor their effort. Students spend half of a school day (February 12) participating. It's great exercise and great fun. Be sure to read the pink sheet that students were sent home with today!
Students in Coach Bruce/Coach Kiefer classes continued basketball. All groups worked on dribbling properly. Older students worked in some dribbling with a defender covering them. Students in Haller/Conrow continued with volleyball, mainly focusing on the "bump" pass. Have a good night! The physical education staff would like to welcome back all of our students! We hope everyone had a safe, healthy holiday season.
Energy around the gym was terrific! It's always tough to go back to work or school after a long layoff, but you wouldn't have guessed that today. All students jumped right back into the swing of things. Students in Coach Bruce/Coach Kiefer classes began their basketball unit and Coach Haller/Coach Conrow students began volleyball. Students in grades 1-5 learned correct form for a "bump pass" in volleyball. Students in these grades are presently using beach balls. Students in grade 5 will eventually advance to a harder "modified" version of a volleyball. Students will be taught the "system" for sending the ball back over the net. This system is bump-set-spike. The hope for 5th grade students is to learn and try this system. The hope for the younger grades is to simply use three hits before sending it over. We want them to try to get away from just hitting it over on the first touch. Students in kindergarten were introduced to the concept of volleyball using balloons. Ask your child to demonstrate a bump pass! |
